Any loss of life is tragic. We see people lose their lives every day in many ways. Accidents, war...murder. With a war going on in Iraq the shooting that occured today at Fort Hood seems even more tragic, even more painful.

Innocent lives wasted. And for what reason?

There is no reason that would ever justify what happened today. Whatever this soldier was thinking or feeling, whatever thoughts clouded his mind...nothing will ever be good enough.

I can't imagine what the families think or feel; my family is alive and well. I didn't lose my father, my mother, my siblings, my children, my friends.

I don't know how I would feel hearing that a fellow soldier, someone I worked with, someone I trusted to watch my back, had decided that my life was worth nothing. I don't know how I'd feel to hear those gunshots, to see the face of someone I had gone to for help holding the gun. Perhaps I'd feel betrayed, confused, angry beyond belief...I don't know.

I do know that I am hurt by what has happened today.

God watches over the wounded tonight and the families who mourn. May we keep them in our prayers and thoughts.
